Hello everyone! Today was the first day of our VBS program with Fuente Church at South Park. We had 78 kids!!! Praise God. Today's lesson was "You are God's masterpiece." We played games, read a Bible story, led small groups to talk about the message, colored bookmarks, and had a fun M&M cookie resembling a paint pallet with pretzel sticks as paintbrushes and chocolate frosting as the paint. We broke into groups for projects this morning with half of us staying at UMR to paint doors on the family residence floor and set up a fun crafts and nail polishing station for the kids during family lunch time. The other groups went to Homegirl Cafe for breakfast, which is part of Homeboy Industries. They took a tour and learned that Homeboy Industry provides services for rehabilitating gang members and preparing them to reenter society. They then joined up with Skidrow Brigade to pass out hygiene kits to those most in need on the streets and also distribute our funky trash cans around the neighborhoods.
